Heater Control Valve Replacement With Honda Part

Heater Control Valve Replacement With Honda Part

I noticed some dried coolant buildup on my heater control valve, which is a common issue with high mileage 3rd generation 4Runners. Replacing it typically takes only 10-15 minutes.

Toyota charges between $100 and $140 for a replacement, depending on the seller. These control valves are manufactured by Denso.

The Toyota part number is 87240-35070 (HVAC Heater Control Valve). It includes the valve itself and a mounting bracket.

In most cases, the mounting brackets do not require replacement. Instead of replacing the entire assembly, Honda offers just the valve. The valve is from the 2003-2007 Honda Accord.

The Honda part number is 79710-SDA-A01 (Valve Assembly, Water)

The Honda part (left) has 2 mounting points, compared to Toyota's single mounting point. This does not affect the functionality of the valves.

The only modification required for this is to swap the lever arm. The holes are keyed so you cannot put them in incorrectly.
